About Me

Fig. 1,  Ilya Nasedkin, 2012

Here I am. My name is Ilya. Not ILJA as written in my passport. At work they call me Ilias, when there is no “s” in my name at all.

I am European student from Latvia and I live in UK for two and a half years from now and I find it interesting and challenging for me.

Path of Graphic design.

Why I have gone for this subject? This actually made me come to this country. There are no so many possibilities to do art related subjects in my country, so I decided to look around the Europe. My choice was United Kingdom. I had a decent English language level for that, but I still struggled at the beginning of the studies in UK…

I have always enjoyed drawing. You can tell it by looking at my school notebooks. Doodles, doodles, doodles. They made my lessons shorter and my marks a bit lower, but I am here, so I passed. At home I was crazy about Photoshop. All my pictures were edited and I did lots of banners and logo designs. I really enjoy doing graphics, that’s why I have chosen this course where I can develop and improve my skills as a creative person.

Creating and inventing anything is the best thing a person can do, and I am always passionate about that. It is amazing to look at things you have created and somebody actually appreciates that. For me it is very important audience’s opinions and critique, which sometimes I don’t really like, but I understand that it’s the way progress works.

I cannot live without the excitement and challenges, so I try to get involved in everything possible out there. For me it is important to keep myself busy, otherwise I am getting too lazy and stop being productive and it’s hard for me to get back on track. University in the morning, work in the evening, catching up with the studies at night doesn’t seem to be lots of time for laziness, right?

By the way, I work in the bar and I actually enjoy it as well, because it is about drink design, so if I don’t get a job in Graphic Design I can stay there. I have tried to find a job in the industry and found a beginner company looking for a designer. It is my chance to start my freelance career and I used this opportunity. I work for them at the moment as a freelance designer producing logos and posters. I am so happy about that.

In my opinion, Graphic Design is the most suitable job for me, because I enjoy doing it and that’s the life is about – doing things you are keen on. That’s why I will never give up and carry on my studies and self-development to be great Graphic Designer.
